Artificial Intelligence is commonly framed as a neutral technological tool designed to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and productivity. This paper challenges that framing. It argues that contemporary AI systems are not merely tools but structural actors that actively reshape how knowledge is produced, validated, and exercised within institutions and societies. By examining AI through epistemic, political, and organizational lenses, this research demonstrates how AI is transforming authority, redistributing power, and redefining decision-making processes. The paper proposes a conceptual framework for understanding AI as a system of delegated authority, rather than an assistive technology, and outlines the implications for governance, journalism, research, and democratic accountability.
